A ceremony took place on Monday 9th May 2016 to plant a tree at the Playing Field, Poulton in memory of the late James Peter (“Jim”) Nunn.
The tree, a Liriodendron tulipifera – or Tulip tree – was presented to the Parish on behalf of the Cotswold Tree Warden Group by its Chairman, Mike Hartnell. Amongst Jim’s many roles and activities in the village he acted, along with his wife, Jean, as Tree Warden for the Parish Council, liaising with the Tree Warden Group and the District Council to ensure any advice he gave was correct.
The vicar of St Michael and All Angels Church, the Reverend John Swanton, led a short prayer and gave the tree a blessing. Parish Council Chairman, Chris Davies responded with thanks on behalf of the community.
Jean Nunn kindly invited all attendees into the adjacent Village Hall for tea and home-made cake.
Jim will be missed by many people for his willingness to help and the cheery way he went about his life. We hope this tribute will be a reminder for many years, to other Poultonians, of all he did. His widow Jean is continuing to support the Cotswold Tree Warden Group for which we are grateful.
The Cotswold Tree Warden Group thanks Tim Day and Haileywood Sawmill for their assistance with this event. Thanks are also due to Barrie Wellington of Elmcroft Nurseries, Newent, who supplied the tree.
