Conference 2016

Our conference this year took place on Saturday 9th July using the venues of Hawkesbury Upton Village Hall and The National Arboretum, Westonbirt.

Local tree wardens were joined by delegates from Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Monmouthshire and Somerset for our annual look at the world of trees.

Following refreshments, attendees were greeted by our Chairman, Mike Hartnell,  who led into addresses by Pauline Buchanan Black, Director General of the Tree Council, Guy Watson of Certhia Consulting.  They were followed by this year’s “headline act”, Ted Green, founding member of the Ancient Tree Forum and Woodland Trust stalwart.

Details from their presentations will be available in the not too distant future.

Following a buffet lunch, the gathering relocated to Westonbirt Arboretum for a look at veteran trees and coppicing.  Andrew Smith, Director of the Arboretum, generously led this session, outlining changes made there recently.  Our visit took in the impressive STIHL Tree Walkway, newly opened this year.
