The orchard at Barton House, Cirencester was opened up to the public once again for a weekend (6/7 October 2018). Frank and Marilyn Gardner joined Tree Warden volunteers to greet keen apple pickers, pass on information about the apple trees and provide catchers for those seeking apples beyond normal reaching distance.
Saturday’s weather was not kind and only hardy souls ventured out. Sunday however was much improved and ‘traffic’ varied between a steady stream and an occasional flood, with even the increased supply of catchers running out quite often.
Some just wanted enough to make a couple of pies, others left laden with bags of apples for freezing or juicing. Voluntary donations from the public help greatly towards CTWG administrative expenses and we are most grateful to our hosts for this initiative to involve the community.
